Here it is everything you need to know to buy your tickets for Machu Picchu, from types of tickets to detailed information of what you will be able to see.
We all know that if you are coming to Peru, Machu Picchu is number 1 place to visit on your list. But not everybody knows that there are different type of tickets to visit the world wonder.
First of all, you need to know that Machu Picchu has a restriction of the amount of visitors it can receive everyday. This is a big change that the government of Peru decided to make in order to preserve it.
Another thing you need to take into account is that you have 3 options of tickets to visit Machu Picchu.
This image will help you to understand the information I will explain after.
1.- Machu Picchu only ($65 USD foreigner – $50 USD Peruvian):
This ticket allows you to visit the city of Machu Picchu. It has a lot of areas so if you haven’t read about the history of Machu Picchu is recommended to hire a guide.
2.- Machu Picchu + Huayna Picchu ($80 USD foreigner – $50 USD Peruvian
This option will include Machu Picchu city but also the trek to the mountain of Huayna Picchu (This the one you see behind the city in all the pictures). The good thing about this option is that you get a great extra view of the ruins. The walk up is not too difficult neither too long. You can get up there in one hour. Try to choose the time that is not too early so you have a clear view with no clouds.
3.- Machu Picchu + Mountain ($80 USD Foreigner – $50 USD Peruvian):
In this option you will be visiting the ruins and city of Machu Picchu but you also have the entrance to the mountain that is in front of it.
Also, it is important for you to know that ticket will also have a certain range of hours for you to visit the ruins. I recommend you to buy the one that is not too early because you might find Machu Picchu surrounded by clouds. And also not the last one, so you have plenty time to visit the ruins and get pictures.
The times are the following:
Machu Picchu only : from 6 am to 2 pm . Every hour there is a different turn.
Machu Picchu + Huayna Picchu : Huayna Picchu ( 7 am to 8 am or 10 am to 10.30 am) and you will have to visit Machu Picchu at 6 am or 8 am depending on which time you choose to visit the mountain .
Machu Picchu+ Mountain: Here you have 2 options, visit the mountain from 7 am to 8 am or from 9 am to 10 am, and in this case you will have to visit the ruins at 6 am, 7 am or 8 am.
As you can see there are restrictive hours for everything so you need to be able to arrive to Machu Picchu early so you can have enough time.
I recommend you to buy your ticket in advanced because in high season it sold out. The months of high season are from june to august. This is the dry season so it is more likely for you to get better weather and no rain while you visit the world wonder.
